    Spirit Play Class (Grades 1-4)

    This lesson is about the five major religions of the world.  Local houses of of worship for each of the five religions is identified, and a few central beliefs are pointed out. This is a very high level overview.

    Do you have questions about how to live the Unitarian Universalist life? Have you ever read your UU World magazine and wanted to discuss the articles in depth? Ever wished you were in a book club but decided you didn't have time to read a whole book?

    If so, stay after the service for the "UU World, UU LIfe" Discussion Circle. We usually use the articles in UU World as a starting point, though any topic is welcome.  Please bring your most recent copy of UU World and (if you get hungry and the snacks aren't quite enough) something to eat.

    This Circle will explore magick and spells, differentiate between that and ritual and then talk about connections between herbs, elements, stones, colors seasons moon phases and more.  Some pagans practice magic, rituals, divination and looking to nature. This is an opportunity to explore views and beliefs of each topic to form  personal practices and respect for other faith paths and points of view. The ritual involves singing, movement, a spirit play lesson cakes and juice and personal exploration. 

    The subject matter comes from the Earth Childs Handbook Crafts and Inspiration for the Spiritual Child by Brigid Ashwood book 1 copy and is recommended for each participating family.

    Buddha means enlightenment.  Sometimes when an idea comes into a person’s mind, it’s like a light is being turned on.  We will hear the birth story of Prince Siddhartha, who later became the Buddha.  Buddha had some great ideas that he shared with many people when he was alive, and today, many many more think about and talk about these ideas.

    Islam/ The Hundredth Name

    Today we will learn about Islam with a story: "The Hundredth Name." Salah, a boy living in Egypt, wants to lift his camel's sadness. Salah has learned from his father about the 99 names of God, so he prays that the camel will learn Allah's hundredth name. The story depicts a warm relationships between father and son, and an admirable desire to be good to animals within the context of Islamic family life.
