When we want other people to be like us, when we pass judgment on them for being different...we are expressing our need for security.  When we feel safe enough to risk connection with them, then we grow.

This special service celebrates the return of summer, the beauty of the diversity among us, and the importance of defending and preserving freedom and dignity for all.  Each person in the congregation is asked to add a flower to our community bouquet at the beginning of the service and will take a different flower home at the end, representing one spiritual community of many individuals.

Our forbearers in faith have held, “We do not have to think alike to love alike.”  We celebrate reminders from the past and the present day that the Spirit of Life catches us off guard, commands our attention and moves us to stand together against forces of fear and division.  If you wish, wear red or rainbows to celebrate!

The ability to nurture another person is not limited by biology or gender.  Today we come together to remember and celebrate the persons (parents, grandparents, relatives, friends, mentors, teachers, guides of all types and descriptions) who have nurtured us.  Please bring a memory, a memento or photograph, some sign of the person or persons who have nurturers in your life.  The service will consist of our sharing and celebrating these examples of nurture in our lives.
