The British scholar Dr. N.T. Wright has written, "When Jesus himself wanted to explain to his disciples what his forthcoming death was all about, he didn't give them a theory, he gave them a meal." The climax of the Emmaus resurrection appearance story is "Then they described what had happened on the road, and how they came to recognize him in the breaking of the bread" (Luke 24:35).
Whatever we think of resurrection, whatever we think of Christianity, a shared meal and shared stories at a common table can be a sign of the presence of the Divine. Chaplain James Gibbons Walker will share thoughts and ask questions about what this sign can mean for us.
Please remember to celebrate by wearing a special hat for the Easter Hat Parade. And please plan to stay after the service for the Easter Egg Hunt.
