10:30am to 11:30am

When I walked in the door of UUFSM in June 2014 I had no idea where that decision would take me.  Going through a spiritual slump, becoming involved with a church was not on my radar beyond attending and having a place where my kids could learn about different religions. Little did I know then what the Universe had in store, where my journey would take me, and how I found a spiritual community.

How is our journey as a Fellowship going?  What do we do well?  What can we improve?

Chaplain James Gibbons Walker and Board Member Pat Johnson co-lead this opportunity to reflect on and have a say in our future.

Everyone's point of view is important.  Everyone contributes to a fruitful journey together.

Most congregations have hopes or goals or needs – a place they want to go.  But far fewer are absolutely sure of where they already are.  Join UUA Congregational Life Staff Rev. Megan Foley this Sunday to take a look at the importance of knowing who and where you are, before finding your next place to be.

Rev. Megan Foley is our primary contact/support person on the staff of the Central East Region of which the Joseph Priestley District is a part.  Rev. Foley leads the service today as part of our weekend of planning for the future of our Fellowship  - this past Friday evening and Saturday.

James Weldon Johnson wrote, 116 years ago, "God of our weary years, God of our silent tears, Thou who hast brought us thus far on the way; Thou who hast by Thy might, Led us into the light, Keep us forever in the path, we pray. ... Shadowed beneath Thy hand, May we forever stand, True to our God, True to our native land."  The path is long.  Exemplars and pioneers have walked the path before us.  Who enlightens our journey together?

Wear your jacket. Clean your room. Obey the speed limit. Take your medications. Rules are everywhere - home, church, school, community. Without rules life would be chaotic. Rules protect and comfort. They can also smother. What are your rules? When was the last time they were revised? We'll discuss rules including how to create, enforce, revise and appreciate the rules in our life.

Chalica 4, Advent 4, Solstice, HumanLight, Christmas - As we celebrate so many holidays and holydays this week, we remember and celebrate the Fourth Principle of Unitarian Universalism.  This principle:  "A free and responsible search for truth and meaning" calls us not to be isolated and self-centered, believing that our single perspective trumps all others, but rather to be humble, to be open to the great mysteries of truth and meaning that life offers. And those mysteries may speak to us through our own intuition and experience—but also through tradition, community, conflict, nature, and relationships.

Our congregations welcome people people from diverse religious backgrounds and help them to discover answers to spiritual questions that intrigue them.  We learn from each other and encourage each other in our various quests.  Can we model this behavior in our communities?
