Sunday service, October 12 – What Does It Mean to Be a Liberal?

On Sunday our guest speaker, Rev. Dr. Bruce Marshall, addresses “What Does It Mean to Be a Liberal?” He says, “Liberals don’t seem real popular these days. All kinds of things get blamed on liberalism: crime, a breakdown of traditional values, weakening family structures, disaffected youth, rising prices, days when the stock market is down (though not when the stock market is up). Unitarian Universalism is an expression of the liberal tradition. Given the climate of these times, I wonder: what does it mean—today—to be a liberal?”

Rev. Marshall is a writer and minister, and having served UU congregations over the years in Maryland and several other states, he is now a chaplain at a retirement community in Silver Spring. His books include, “A Holy Curiosity: Stories of a Liberal Religious Faith” and “Taking Pictures of God.”
